Dear  “Unknown Friend,”
Our kitty seems to find the best place in the house.  A great day here to “soak it up.”
It appears the best place today is in front of my wife’s computer.  Couldn’t resist
this picture !

Angel Chimes

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Our ‘Seasonal Card’ this year features Angel Chimes. I filmed this video hoping
the chimes would be audible. My camera was unable to catch the tinkle of the
chimes, so I added music.  We featured a photo of our Angel Chimes on our
‘Seasonal Card’ this year.  The following was printed on the back of the card:
Traditional Swedish Angel Chimes:
Turid’s family always had these on the dining
table for Christmas.  The candles glow.
The angels spin.  The chimes sing.

Santa 2011

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Since childhood until today, I am tickled to watch the snow in a Snow Globe.
It’s a delight for me to share this one from my collection of globes.

Sunday Morning, November 27, 2011, Raleigh

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Several weeks ago, my wife and I attended a reading given by the US Poet Laureate,
W.S. Merwin, at NC State University.  Mr. Merwin mentioned he was a
longtime friend and colleague of the director of the creative writing program
at NCSU, which might explain why we had the good fortune to hear him here,
when one considers how many invitations Mr. Merwin must have received during
his tenure as US Poet Laureate.  This reading was to be his last as US Poet Laureate.
In recent years, I have enjoyed two collections of Mr. Merwin’s; Migration: New &
Selected Poems and The Shadow of Sirius.  I was excited to find in my mailbox
yesterday his The Book of Fables.

The last lines from Eye of ShadowThe Shadow of Sirius.

Sunday Morning in ‘Bluebird Park’

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Some time ago, I believe I told you I refer to the
NC Museum of Art Park as, “Bluebird Park.”
Please watch a moment or two from some time
I spent there this morning.

NC Museum of Art Park

Dear “Unknown Friend.”
Today, I took my camera along to the NC Museum of Art Park.  Beautiful day !
Below, you’ll see a pavilion where I rest and consider this and that.  The facade is a metal mesh.  A nice structure, I think.  The bench is found further along.  ( The bench is constructed using iron bars that once were used to cover windows in a prison.  Before ‘The Park’,  the site was a prison farm for ‘youth offenders’. ) Lots of birds to see today, lots of robins, recently.  I’ll post some more pictures from my walk in the park.  A very nice area to visit.  Very nice.

Quiche

Dear Unknown Friend,”
I can report one of my entries (January) for “The White Show” at The Visual Art Exchange was included in the exhibit.  Hooray !
The image here is much more beautiful than my painting, hence I’m showing it here.  I saw this picture in our kitchen on our stove this afternoon and was inspired to take a picture.  It’s supper !  A “quiche lorraine”.  Yummy.

Visual Art Exchange

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Once again, I am entering an art competition, this time at The Visual Art Exchange here in Raleigh.  Two paintings for the juror to consider and include or not include in the exhibit.   My two entries are displayed below.  The theme this time is “White”, white must be the dominate color… don’t you just love theme shows?  I’ll let you know if I had any luck.

Finding The Way Home

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
I haven’t posted anything in a good while.  Here is something I thought I could show.
The painting below has been included in a Visual Art Exchange exhibition with the
theme…”Never Exhibited Works.”  The show opens on September 2 in new gallery
space at 309 West Martin Street, Raleigh.
This painting was inspired by a photograph of a “stick map” I have in a book on
Oceanic Mythology.  My mother-in-law gave me this book a long time ago.
I included this image in a painting I made a number of years before now, which
I titled “Museum Of The Pacific.”

Solar Lamp

Dear “Unknown Friend,”
Several years ago, relatives gave my wife and me the “Solar Lamp” seen below.
Last night, when I noticed it glowing on our deck, I rushed downstairs with my
trusty little Nikon and took this photo.
There is, of course, a solar collector embedded in the top of the lamp.
The lamp has an on and off switch.
